🏰 Getting Started
The core game loop, the castle, population, castle and population gifts, offline progress and scheduled maintenance, colonies, choosing a kingdom (limit, pre-registration, entry requirements, leaving), rankings, notifications, display name and Google sign-in.
Harnoria is a medieval idle strategy game. You grow your city, put your people to work and build an army; your city keeps producing even when you are not playing. This page explains how the game works in general. Check the related pages for details.
The core loop
The heart of the game is this loop:
- Your population grows and settles in your city.
- You assign people to buildings as workers; workers produce food, wood, stone and iron.
- You use resources to build and upgrade buildings.
- You order science and research technologies; technologies unlock new buildings and strengthen everything.
- You build an army, attack camps, send gathering expeditions and fight other players.
- The loot and items you win help you grow even faster.
Idle population (people who are not workers) pays taxes and brings in gold. That is why putting everyone to work is not always the best choice. You can find the gold balance on the Economy page.
The Castle: the heart of your city
The Castle is the center of your city and sets the ceiling for your growth:
- No building can be higher level than the Castle. To take a building further, you must upgrade the Castle first.
- Each Castle level opens 8 new building plots. Each building level takes up one plot.
- Each Castle level increases housing capacity (the population limit) by 6% (compounding). After level 30, this increase drops to 4% per Castle level.
There are three requirements to upgrade the Castle to the next level:
| Requirement | Description |
|---|---|
| House level | The House must be at least the current Castle level |
| Population | 125 for Lv2, 250 for Lv3, then 200 × (target level − 1) |
| Developed buildings | Total building levels must be at least 3 × (target level − 1) |
The first upgrade needs no stone. After level 10, iron is also required, and after level 20, gold as well.
💡 Tip: Upgrade the House together with the Castle. It meets the Castle requirement, and each House level raises the population limit by 12% (8% per level after House Lv30).
Population and "Summon Citizens"
Your starting population limit is 1,000 people. Houses, the Castle and some technologies raise this limit. Population grows on its own, but only while you have a food surplus. With a food deficit, growth stops; during a famine, people emigrate. Details are on the Economy page.
The Summon Citizens button on the City screen gives you population instantly. The amount depends on your city's hourly population growth, so the bigger your city gets, the more people each tap brings.
If your population goes above your housing limit (e.g. with a population item), the excess slowly emigrates: every second, 0.2% of the excess leaves the city, so half of the excess is gone in about 6 minutes.
Castle and population gifts 🎁
When your Castle reaches certain levels or your city reaches certain population sizes, a gift pack arrives in Mail ▸ System. Each tier is given once per kingdom. Tiers you passed before this system existed are also granted afterwards.
- Castle: Lv5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50.
- Population (of your most populous city): 100,000, 250,000, 500,000 and 1,000,000.
Packs contain speedups and resource packs of all six resources (food, wood, stone, iron, gold, science), and they grow as the tier rises:
| Tier | Contents (summary) |
|---|---|
| Castle Lv5 | 2× general 30 min, 2× construction 1 h, 2× technology 1 h, 4× training 1 h, 1 medium pack of each resource |
| Castle Lv25 | 2× general 12 h, 2× construction 24 h, 2× technology 24 h, 4× training 8 h, 2× healing 8 h, 3 large packs of each resource |
| Castle Lv50 | 2× general 7 days, construction and technology 7 days, 8× training 24 h, 5× healing 24 h, 10 large packs of each resource |
| Population 100,000 | 3× general 3 h, 2× construction 8 h, 2× technology 3 h, 2 medium packs of each resource, 3 large food packs |
| Population 1,000,000 | general 7 days + 2× general 24 h, 5× construction 24 h, 5× technology 24 h, 3× training 24 h, 6 large packs of each resource, 12 large food packs |
Nations
When you start the game, you choose a nation (18 options such as Rome, Vikings, Ottomans, Japan and Mongols). Each nation has 3 permanent bonuses: production, unit strength, loot, carry capacity and so on. If you change your mind, you can switch nations without losing progress using the rare Nation Charter item.
Offline progress
Nothing stops when you leave the game. When you come back, the time that passed is calculated one-to-one in real time:
- Production, population growth and consumption run at full speed.
- Construction, research, troop training and hero training progress in real time. For example, a 3-day research finishes if you stay offline for 3 days.
- There is no limit on offline time.
💡 Tip: Before you leave, make sure your food and gold balance is positive. During a long absence, a food deficit makes people emigrate, and if your army's wages are not paid, soldiers desert.
When you have no internet connection
If your connection drops, the game does not close. A red exclamation mark appears on the corner of the ⚙️ Settings button in the top bar; this shows you are offline.
- Your city keeps working: production, construction and research continue.
- You can open server-based screens such as guild, map, rankings and messages as you last saw them. These screens are view-only.
- Actions that need the server, such as attacks, rallies, donations and sending messages, cannot be done until you reconnect (an "You are offline" warning appears).
- When the connection returns, your progress is saved automatically; your expeditions, guild returns and mail are updated.
Scheduled maintenance 🛠️
Before scheduled maintenance, an announcement arrives in Mail ▸ System: the start day and time (Turkey time), the approximate duration and the end time.
When maintenance begins, a maintenance screen with a countdown opens in the middle of the screen: remaining time, a progress bar and the estimated end time.
- Your city keeps producing during maintenance; your progress stays on your phone.
- No battles are resolved during maintenance. When maintenance ends, expeditions on the road, rallies, reinforcement armies and shields are extended by the length of the maintenance; this way nobody is caught defenseless because of maintenance, and your shield time is not wasted.
- When the time is up, the game checks the server every few seconds and reconnects automatically as soon as it is back.
Multiple cities (colonies)
Each level of the Colonization technology in the Economy tree gives you the right to found a new city on the map (up to 5 levels). Each of your colonies has its own buildings, workers and resources. Some things, however, are shared across the kingdom:
| Shared (the same in all cities) | City-specific |
|---|---|
| Technology tree and a single research slot | Food, wood, stone, iron, gold |
| Science point pool | Buildings and workers |
| Bag (items) and gems | Population and population policy |
| VIP, number of builders, construction queue slots | Construction bonus pool |
| Production boost, market cooldown | Army (moved by transfer) |
Transfers between cities
If you have at least two cities, you can use 🚚 Transfer on the City screen to send troops, resources and population from one of your cities to another:
- Settles: The army stays in the target city.
- Returns: The army drops off its load and returns home.
- The resources you can carry are limited by the army's carry capacity.
- Travel time is based on the distance between the two cities on the map and the army's slowest unit.
- When moving population, you pay 1,000 food per person up front, and 5–15% of the population is lost on the way.
Kingdoms (worlds)
The game is played in several kingdoms (servers). Your account and profile are shared across all kingdoms. Your city, army, gems and progress, however, are separate in each kingdom: every kingdom has its own gem wallet. For the map itself, see Kingdom Map.
You can switch between the kingdoms you have entered at any time from the kingdom selection screen. When you enter a new kingdom, your city is protected by a 72-hour beginner shield. During this time other players cannot attack you. If you attack someone, your shield drops.
Kingdom limit
- At first you can enter at most 2 kingdoms.
- As your global level rises, new kingdom slots unlock:
| Global level | 1–24 | 25 | 50 | 100 | 150 | 200 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kingdom slots | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 |
- You get your 3rd slot at global level 25 and your 4th at 50; after that, one more slot is added every 50 levels. For global level, see the VIP and Global Level page.
- Kingdoms you have pre-registered for but that have not opened yet also count toward your limit.
- Some kingdoms (such as event or contest kingdoms) do not count toward your limit. The selection screen shows "Does not count toward the kingdom limit". You can enter these even when your limit is full.
- Kingdoms you have left do not count toward your limit (see below).
Kingdom settings
Each kingdom has its own settings, shown on the selection screen:
- Speed: In some kingdoms, construction, research, training, gathering or expeditions run faster.
- 🗺️ Map size: The kingdom map is square and its size depends on the kingdom (from 250×250 up to 1000×1000; the most common is 500×500). On a small map, everyone is closer to each other. Hades' Fortress is always in the exact center of the map, whatever its size; the Ancient Fortresses are spread evenly across the map.
Scheduled opening
Some kingdoms appear in the list before they open and show "⏳ Opens in X". You cannot enter such a kingdom until its start time. The kingdom's days (such as the event calendar and the rise of Hades) are counted from the moment it opens.
Pre-registration
Some kingdoms only open once enough players have gathered:
- The kingdom card shows the "📝 Pre-registration" status: how many people have registered, the minimum number of registrations needed to open and (if any) the maximum number of players.
- You reserve your place with the Register button; if you change your mind, you can Cancel Registration. When you register, the kingdom's entry requirements and your kingdom limit are checked.
- When the start date arrives and enough registrations have been collected, the kingdom opens automatically. The moment it opens counts as the kingdom's start, and registered players are notified.
- Registered players have a reserved place; after opening, unregistered players can take the remaining free spots.
Entry requirements
Some kingdoms have entry requirements. The selection screen lists the 📜 requirements; if you do not meet them, the kingdom appears locked and shows the reason. Possible requirements:
| Requirement | Description |
|---|---|
| Minimum global level | E.g. a kingdom open only to experienced players |
| Maximum global level | E.g. a new-player kingdom |
| Account age | Your account must have been created at least a certain number of days ago |
| Linked account | Guest accounts cannot enter; you must link your account |
| Registration period | After opening, the kingdom accepts new players only during its first few days |
| Player limit | When the kingdom is full, no new players can enter |
Requirements are only checked on your first entry into a kingdom. Changes made later to a kingdom you have already entered do not affect you.
Leaving a kingdom
If your limit is full and you want to make room for a new kingdom, you can permanently leave a kingdom you have entered:
- On the kingdom selection screen, press the 🚪 button on the card of a kingdom you have entered but are not currently in. To leave the kingdom you are in, switch to another kingdom first.
- You type the kingdom's name to confirm.
- You must meet the conditions for leaving your guild (for example, you must not have an open loan at the guild bank).
- The kingdom you left no longer counts toward your limit.
⚠️ Leaving cannot be undone. You can never enter that kingdom again. Your cities stay on the map, but their shields are removed; other players can plunder them.
If you want to move to another kingdom without losing your progress, see the Kingdom Migration Edict item (Bag and Items).
Rankings
Use 🏆 Rankings on the right rail of the City screen to open the kingdom leaderboard. There are four tabs:
- Power: Players' current power
- Castle: Castle level
- Global XP: The global points of players in this kingdom
- Guild: Guilds ranked by the total power of their members
Each tab lists the top 50; your own row is highlighted and "Your rank" is always visible at the bottom. Tap a player's row to open their profile card. The table refreshes about once a minute.
Notifications
In the phone app (Android and iOS), you receive two kinds of notifications. You can turn each one on or off in ⚙️ Settings ▸ 🔔 Notifications.
War and guild (arrive while you are not playing):
- ⚔️ Attack on your city: when the attack sets out and when it is resolved
- 🏰 Attack on a guild fortress: when a rally is started against your fortress, when the fortress is defended or when it falls
- 🚩 When someone in your guild starts a rally
- 📜 When a new message is sent to the guild
Reminders (arrive when you have closed the game, at the moment a job finishes):
- When construction (building, castle, wall, tower), research, troop training, healing or hero training finishes
- When your energy is full
- When your gathering expedition returns to the city
While you are in the game, the same events appear instantly as alerts at the top of the screen. If notification permission for the app is turned off in your phone's settings, no notifications arrive.
Protecting your account and Google sign-in
You start the game with a guest account. To avoid losing your progress when you change devices or delete and reinstall the app, you should link your account. There are two ways on the Account screen:
- Link with email
- Link with Google (in the phone app)
Once you have linked your Google account, you can return to your account on another device with "Sign in with Google" on the sign-in screen. If you try to sign in with a Google account that is not linked, no new account is created; you must first link it from your guest account.
The first time you link your account (email or Google), you earn a one-time reward of 25 gems.
Display name
You set the name shown in guild lists, rankings and battle reports on the Profile screen.
- Your first name change is free.
- Each later change uses up a ✒️ Name Change Decree. The decree costs 100 gems in the shop; you start every new kingdom with 1 decree in your bag.
Where to go next?
